Motorization and automation
Simple motorization for a simple daily life
Motorization
The equipment moves electrically, controlled by a switch or a remote. Motorization enables the action.
Automation
The equipment follows a logic (schedules, scenarios, sensors) and coordinates with other openings. Automation brings organization.
Command and control: which solution to choose?
Somfy RTS or io-homecontrol radio
Ideal in renovation, to avoid control wiring, or if you plan a future centralization.
Wired
Permanent, sturdy and direct, consistent when the project is new or heavily renovated.
Manual override (option)
Essential when the opening is critical (main access, garage door) and manual operation must remain possible during an outage.
Key switch (wired option)
When access to the control must be restricted: commercial, semi-public, sensitive areas.

Power outage: plan rather than endure
From the design stage, we check whether an opening must remain accessible at all times: garage door, main access, commercial space. Depending on the motorization chosen, there is a rechargeable battery, a manual override or an adapted configuration. The goal isn’t only to motorize, but to anticipate real situations.
After motorization: organize or automate
Remotes, switches and groups
Create groups (façade, patio, floor), drive individually or collectively, with remotes or wall controls. For many projects, this level of organization is enough.
Automation and centralization
Schedules, scenarios or conditions (light, wind, temperature): several openings work as one system.

- Morning: coordinated opening by zones
- Strong sun: shade management with solar shades
- Evening: global closing, home and outdoor spaces
- Away mode: presence simulation
Choosing the right motor
- Motorization chosen for the real application
- Control type (RTS or wired) based on your need
- Required options: key switch, manual override

Frequently asked questions: motorization and controls
Why choose a Somfy motor?
For reliability, compatibility (RTS or io-homecontrol depending on the equipment) and the ecosystem of controls: switches, remotes, centralization with or without a voice assistant. The final choice depends on the opening, its use and the level of control you want.
What happens during a power outage?
Depending on the configuration, we add a rechargeable battery or a manual override. The equipment resumes automatically when power returns. For critical openings, such as a main access, we assess this option from the design stage.
Can I automate later?
Yes. An RTS motorization already works by remote. To program schedules or scenarios later, we add a Somfy TaHoma centralization without replacing the motors.
What is the difference between Somfy RTS and io-homecontrol?
RTS is Somfy's proven radio technology. io-homecontrol, depending on the equipment, provides feedback such as position confirmation. Both work with TaHoma.
Wall switch or RTS remote: which to choose?
RTS is often preferred in renovation and to keep flexibility (groups, future centralization). Wired suits new builds or major renovations, for a permanent, direct control that is easy to integrate into a security logic.
Is it compatible with an alarm system?
Yes, especially wired: a security system can trigger closings through a relay, for example when the alarm is armed.
